Whole Story:
As previously posted, this weekend (October 5,6,7) is the American Royal BBQ. Mary Smith, Andy Graham, and Sean McKenna are going to be slaving away inside the smokers to get you the meat you love and bring home the glory for Top of the Bottoms.
As you all know, this is the biggest party in Kansas City, year after year, and we'll be doing our best to stay on top of it.
I'm hoping that you can come down and hang out with us.
* Thursday night is always free to get in, easy to find parking, and a good time to come down and get your bearings. By 6:00pm or so, we'll be drinking beer around the campfire, and maybe some folks will be grilling, frying, or smoking. DJ Money$hot (Tilden Snow) will be spinning your favorite House, Jungle, and Country favorites.
* Friday night is the big party night. Judging from years past, it's mayhem. Parking is going to be difficult. See parking statement below. We'll be smoking up meat all day and throughout the night. The earlier you come, the easier time you're going to have parking and hanging out with us, and it does get crazy down there by 5:00pm. I'll be there all day, so come early and hang out with me! Later on, we'll have some sweet soul records spun by our favorite DJs, Superwolf and (we hope...) Fat Sal. I have heard some unconfirmable rumors that Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys may play...
* Saturday afternoon is when we turn in the competition meat. Come down early and we'll have some campfire breakfast. After bacon and beer, the Dirty Force (Brass Knuckle Street Band and Soul Revue) will be primed for marching and we'll take in all of the sweet fruits of Mary, Andy, and Sean's labor. There will be many opportunities to stand around the cutting board and gorge yourself on what will surely be the world's (431st) best BBQ.
* Saturday is also the day of the 2nd annual UnAmerican Royal at the Dolphin Gallery. Last year, this was a fun street party with beer, bands, and BBQ, and I had a great time. This year, we'll have the smokers set up on a trailer, parade float style, and after the American Royal wraps up by around 2:00pm, we'll load up the meat, the smoke, the brass band, and the beer, and parade up and over the hill to the Dolphin (19th and Baltimore), for the 1st Annual Top of the Bottoms (SA * PC * BS) Parade of Meat. Yum.
After all of that, you know what comes next: The Plea.
In all honesty, (because of arrangements made with the AR to rectify last year's fiasco) our costs are very low this year. But they are not zero. We're still paying for meat and beer, and I know what all you vultures can do to a lot of meat and beer. So... we could use a little help on the money angle.
Friday night and Saturday day are "pay-to-enter" events with a gate and ticket booths and all of that. It is going to be, I believe $10 a day to get in on Friday night (after 4:00pm) and Saturday morning. We have managed to wrestle out of the AR a few day passes which we have for sale for $10. If you plan on coming down anyway, buy our tickets and help defray some costs.
Renee is making T-Shirts and selling them to pay for meat and beer and selling them for $10. If you want one, send me an email with your size by Tuesday, October 3.
We have a package deal available for getting even more bread out of you. IF you're coming down, AND you want a t-shirt, THEN buy our "Silver Level" team membership for the low price of $20. This will give you all of that AND rights to poke on the meat in the smoker.
As always, and just so you know, ALL proceeds will go towards the essentials: Meat. Beer.
