KODE9
Kode9’s music has appeared on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex imprint, Soul Jazz, and powerhouse dubstep label Tempa. He has remixed for Burial, The Junior Boys, Dabrye, MF Doom and Lee Scratch Perry. As a DJ, he has hosted the legendary Fwd>> show on London’s pioneering pirate radio station Rinse FM, and holds residencies at the seminal dubstep nights DMZ and Forward>> in London. His sets are renown for their devastatingly low bottom ends and uncompromising selections – rocking parties the world over with the highest quality and lowest frequency sounds.
HYPERDUB
As well as a stunning producer and DJ, Kode9 also runs Hyperdub Records, the first and only home of universally acclaimed musical recluse, Burial. Emerging from London’s early grime and dubstep scenes in 2004, Hyperdub has been responsible for a string of boundary pushing releases from such artists as The Bug, L.A.’s hip hop genius Samiyam, the spliff-dubbingly good Zomby and Kode9’s own remixes and productions with the Spaceape (his full length album with the Spaceape “Memories of the Future” was released in 2006 to critical acclaim). Celebrating a 5th anniversary in 2009, Hyperdub is certainly one of the most important electronic music labels of recent times – supplying the most exciting sounds in forward thinking dance music.
HARMONIC 313 & STEVE SPACEK
Harmonic 313 is the latest in the very long line of musical aliases of beat wizard Mark Pritchard. Coming to fruition this year on the album When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence, released on the almighty Warp label, this project melds Pritchard’s love of sci-fi soundtracks and hip-hop with heavy doses of Detroit techno and 8-bit Atari samples. The result has been something completely unique: electronic, bass-heavy, new and old at once, deep and extremely danceable.
In recent years Pritchard has been producing and touring with neo-soul vocalist and outer-galactic MC Steve Spacek. Since his debut solo album “Space Shift” on K7 Records featuring collaborations with the late and forever great J Dilla, Spacek has worked with Australia’s own Katalyst, and with his brother D-Bridge of Bad Company fame on the Black Pocket project. Most recently Spacek and Pritchard have been working together on their new project Africa Hi-tech, which is set for release on Warp records. Expect a heavy, diverse set from Harmonic 313 alongside Spacek on the mic as they present their music “soundsystem style”. Mark delivers the beats, bloops and basslines, while Steve laces the sound with his unique soulful vocals and Jamaican toasting styles.
